MAY 18 AND 21 – EDUCATIONAL & RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES FOR SCHOOLS
MIEC – 9h00 to 17h30
Practical activities directed to the educational community which will provide the possibility to experiment different artistic areas, based on a set of oriented proposals. These workshops have as a reference both museums’ collections and its temporary exhibitions and aim to broaden horizons, to mobilize transversal knowledge, to value experimentation, developing the autonomy and stimulating creativity.
ARCHAEOLOGY WORKSHOP
“Painting the Past”
When we visit an archaeology museum, what do we see? Stones and pebbles, big and small coins, glass bits and even bones… But mostly we can see pottery: vases, pots, smaller pots, jars, little plates and some are all shattered. Some of them are plain, other decorated, but the prettiest of them all are the painted ones. In this workshop, kids will paint their own vase, with a little help from their imagination.
SCULPTURE WORKSHOP
“Make your own sculpture”
At the International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture, the sculptures are made of multiple materials, some from wood and others from stone or steel. In this workshop kids are challenged to use a completely different material: Styrofoam. But first we must get to work and make a Styrofoam slime, mixing unexpected ingredients. It will be fun and maybe… a little sticky.
Theater (14h30 and 16h00)
“Catabrisa”
A little boy, similar to other boys, lives the biggest adventures of all time: the adventure of curiosity, of desire, of discovery, of astonishment, of invention, the adventure of whom is born and grows up with a whirling mind. The theater was based on the book Catavento: Joana Providência staged and choreographed, Manuel Cruz produced the music, Luís Mendonça was in charge of set design and costumes, Emílio Remelhe wrote and Filipe Caldeira performed. Together they created a space of ideas shaped as a sensation, a place of sensations shaped as a gesture, a location of gestures shaped as a sound, a sound map shaped as a shadow, a world of shadows shaped as a story for everyone. For everyone to see, listen, feel and think the way each one sees, listens, feels and thinks.
MAY 18 – Conference from Fernando José Pereira “From needed time and images. Notes from the exhibition Contrato (a tempo indeterminado)”
MAY 19 AND 20 – EDUCATIONAL & RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES FOR FAMILIES
MIEC – 10H00 to 18H00

SCULPTURE WORKSHOP
“Soap Sculpture”
There is no better place to produce a sculpture than the International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture. However, in this activity the participants will be able to explore a different material, one that we are used to in our everyday life. Let’s see art from a different perspective.
ARCHITECTURE WORKSHOP
“Kirigami”
Through ancient folding and cutting techniques, the participants of this workshop are going to transform a paper sheet into a small building.
ARCHAEOLOGY WORKSHOP
“Weaving”
These days when we have a need for clothing we simply go to the store and buy it. However, there were times when it was not that simple and people needed to make it themselves. Therefore we are going to improvise a little manual loom using just a little bit of cardboard and a thread, so that the participants of this activity can have a go at the work of ancient generations.
