The exhibition Intemporalidade da Matéria [Timelessness of Matter] offers a sensory and philosophical experience, inviting the public to explore the relationship between nature, the human mind and the transformation of ideas into concrete forms. Mário Lopes, deeply connected with sculpture since his youth, presents a series of works reflecting the maturity of his concepts over time, materialized in different materials such as stone, wood, cork and paper, among others. Each work expresses the artist’s respect for matter and his commitment to eternalizing it.
Growing up in the countryside, Mário is inspired by the laws of nature, capturing the fluidity, strength, and energy of the natural elements, and transmitting these qualities in his creations. Although stone was his starting point, his exploration of other materials, such as prints, tapestries, and paintings, reveals a versatility that enriches his artistic vocabulary.
His travels and contact with different cultures broadened his vision of the essential role of art in people’s lives. In Intemporalidade da Matéria [Timelessness of Matter], Mário Lopes’ sculptures transcend their materiality, becoming vehicles of abstract images and timeless ideas that challenge our perception of the world and the forms that exist in it.
