The 1st Biennial of Culture and Education is a national-scale initiative of the National Plan for the Arts, aiming to reflect on and promote the role of the arts in both formal and non-formal education, as well as to encourage cultural democracy. The International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture and the Alberto Carneiro Art Center joined this initiative with the project “Art Life. Landscapes and Places.”
This was a long-term project that fostered engagement and closeness with the local educational community, through an invitation to lower and upper secondary schools to actively participate in artistic creation. This included guided visits, workshops, and meetings with museum staff.
Over the past few months, students from these schools actively participated in guided tours and workshops at the International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture, the Abade Pedrosa Municipal Museum, and the Alberto Carneiro Art Center. These activities were led by artists and cultural mediators from the museums and included experimental photography workshops, contemporary dance, and mural painting, held both in the cultural facilities of the municipality and in the schools themselves.
