Artistic Residency – Torrente

The eighth edition of the artistic-pedagogical residency – Deslocações – returns to the origins of this project: relocating sculpture students from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto to engage in dialogue with the territory of Santo Tirso, taking water as a leitmotiv. The work process led them to undertake a trail between castros – from the citânia of Sanfins de Ferreira to the castro of Monte Padrão – following the course of the Leça River. Each student’s individual subjectivity now flows into Torrente.

What better name for the emergence of a body of work born from the urgency of those just beginning?

The Torrente now animating the spaces between the archaeological exhibition at the Abade Pedrosa Municipal Museum seeks to overflow not only the physical “riverbeds” but also to break through time and place with the violence of artistic vulnerability.

If these are times of stagnation or civilizational regression; if still waters seem to cloud our attention, let us transform the mud with the vitality of youthful gestures of hope and wisdom: signals born of art and of urgent reunions with nature and the origins of our shared home.
