“13 JANELAS, 13 PORTAS, 13 CADEIRAS” [“13 WINDOWS, 13 DOORS, 13 CHAIRS”] is Sandra Baía’s (PT, 1968) proposal for a solo exhibition in which she fully establishes formal and content relationships with the architecture of the International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture. Starting from the recovery of a work begun in 2021 and which now connects to the place of archaeology and memory, the artist proposes a journey through the diversity of her artistic production, from the point of view of materials and technologies, affirming her language, simultaneously industrial and sensitive, revealing the silhouettes and textures of a principle of body, movement, and action on matter. Sandra Baía explores the pictorial principles in sculpture that always relate to emptiness and fullness, promoting spatial narratives that challenge the viewer, both through reflection and through the invitation to roam and discover the multiple points of view that she explores in her creative process. Unafraid to travel to the monumental, the artist presents nearly a dozen works, which move between representation and abstraction, and give us an account of an artist with a robust and visceral production.
