Robert Schad – Entre Tempo

23/Jun/2017
a 01/Oct/2017

Entre Tempo explores the fleeting moment that lies between visual perception and the spectral configuration of reality – an indeterminate, symbolic time that can only be measured by its quality. Lines merge and separate in fluid arrangements. An intuitively perceptible order reveals itself only in the intervals of visibility, in the constructive acceleration of a gesture’s theatrical staging. It is the brief moment of a glance, preceding the moment of reflection that imposes order on the observed reality.

In this transition, the invisible coherence of the elements transforms into a loquacious rhythm – bodily and expressive – repeated in a sequence of choreographed movements, reshaping itself within the fluidity of time and space. It dematerializes the raw matter of the medium, making way for the primacy of the poetic gesture in a lyrical and timeless dimension.

The opening will feature a contemporary dance performance by Portuguese choreographer and dancer Rui Horta and António Torres.

Biography - Rui Horta

Born in Lisbon, Rui Horta began dancing at age 17 in the Ballet Gulbenkian courses. He later lived several years in New York City, where he completed his training and developed his career as a performer and teacher. In 1984, he returned to Lisbon, becoming one of the main drivers of a new generation of Portuguese dancers and choreographers.
During the 1990s, he lived in Germany, where he directed the Soap Dance Theatre Frankfurt. His work is considered a reference in European dance and has been presented at major theaters and festivals worldwide, such as the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, which presented and co-produced his works over a decade.
In 2000, he returned to Portugal and founded Espaço do Tempo in Montemor-o-Novo, a multidisciplinary center for artistic experimentation. In addition to his intense work as an independent creator, Rui Horta has created a vast repertoire as a guest artist for renowned companies such as Cullberg Ballet, Ballet Gulbenkian, Grand Ballet de l’Opéra de Genève, Opéra de Marseille, Netherlands Dance Theatre, Göteborg Opera, Icelandic Ballet, Scottish Dance Theatre, Random Dance, Companhia Nacional de Bailado, Carte Blanche, Ballet am Gärtnerplatz, Ballet de Roubaix, Ballet de l’Opéra de Linz, and Ballet de l’Opéra de Nürnberg, among others.
Throughout his career, he has received important awards and distinctions such as the Grand Prix de Bagnolet, the Bonnie Bird Award, the Deutsche Produzent Preis, the Acarte Prize, the Almada Prize, the Officer rank of the Order of Infante, and the rank of Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, awarded by the French Ministry of Culture. His choreographic creation was recently classified as Heritage of German Dance.
In the performing arts, his work as a director extends to theater, opera, and experimental music. He is also a lighting designer and multimedia researcher, fields he frequently incorporates into his works.
