Aware of the growing importance of culture as an essential instrument for the construction of full citizenship, as well as its relevance in the economic and social domains, the Municipality of Santo Tirso, within its competencies, has promoted and encouraged its development, both through the construction of new cultural facilities and through the diversification and consolidation of a program based on rigorous quality criteria.
The project of the International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture will perhaps be the most revealing example of this policy, perceived through the scrupulous adherence to the artistic criteria that have guided its execution from the very beginning, as well as through the strict respect for the programmatic principles initially defined, namely the organization and management of the collection, which ultimately affirm the primacy of art.
This exhibition – 15 Sculptors – includes works by Portuguese artists represented in the Museum’s collection and stands, by itself, as an example of the diversity, aesthetic and conceptual richness of contemporary arts, evident in the heterogeneity of the nature and characteristics of the works displayed, in the intellectual horizon that informs them, as well as in the distinct languages shown, emphasizing the reach and power of art as a superior form of expression and transformation of thought and mentalities.
