The exhibition titled “Long House with Light and Other Constructions” inaugurates the headquarters of the International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture in Santo Tirso and marks the beginning of a program whose guiding principle seeks to establish new relationships between various artistic configurations and contemporaneity. From the very beginning, the exhibition was conceived and designed as a site-specific intervention within the space created by architects Álvaro Siza Vieira and Eduardo Souto Moura. It reveals a clear formal proximity, where the artist, using a particular concept of drawing, transforms the exhibition area into a support for this discipline, enhancing the architecture of the building.

“Long House with Tree Inside, Long House with Light” mark Carlos Nogueira’s most recent inquiries into the house, space, elements, and the human condition in their multiple interactions, where he reexamines timeless themes of universal culture, allowing us to approach the intellectual substance of his artistic production.

(…) My work focuses on issues of tectonic and poetic roots, where concepts such as permanence, the ephemeral, and the sacred are always central. I am interested in light, the geometry of time, and the irreversibility of thought. I work on the metric and the elemental of an existing heritage, natural or built, which can be anything from a waterline, a wall being demolished, to the wind, as well as all the space they characterize or contain. As a mediator, I intervene and reveal—an angle that fits, a hill that widens, the city.
